Turn on Total labels for stacked visuals in Power BI

Turn on Total Labels

Now you can enable total labels for stacked bar charts, stacked column charts, stacked area charts, and line and stacked column charts.

This feature was introduced in Power BI in September 2020.

Prerequisite: Update Power BI to the latest version from the official Microsoft Power BI website.



Sample Dataset format as below:

Year Sales Profit
2014 15000 -6000
2015 10000 -5000
2016 11000 12000
2017 9000 -4000
2018 13000 13500
2019 11000 12000
2020 9000 -4000

Let’s start with an example:-

Step-1: Display sales and profit year-wise in a stacked column chart visual.

Step-2: Select a visual, go to the Format pane, and enable the ‘Total labels’ option. Then, configure basic properties such as color, display units, text size, and font-family, as needed.

Step-3: If you interested to see negative sales totals then you have to enable Split positive & negative option.

Note:

  • Same you can enable for stacked bar chart,  stacked area chart, and line and stacked column charts.
  • For single value Total labels option will not appear.
